Betty West Mills

Betty West Mills, 86, of Byron, passed away at her home on Saturday, November 26, 2022, surrounded by her family.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at 11:00AM in the barn at Sardis-Heard Funeral Home.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at 3:00PM in Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery in Americus, Georgia. Pallbearers will include Clint Mills, Jacob Holland, Ronnie Mills, and Steve Upchurch.

Ms. Betty was born in Chula, Georgia, on December 22, 1935, to the late G.W. and Mittie West.  She was one of six siblings.  Mrs. Mills married the love of her life, Erle, and they were happily married for 63 years.  She dedicated 18 years of her life as Erle’s primary caretaker until his death in 2018.  Mrs. Mills loved her family and her most beloved role was being a wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. A kind, generous, and loving lady, Mrs. Mills was always smiling and loved to laugh.  Her pleasant personality was contagious to everyone she met. Mrs. Mills was a beautiful example of God’s love in action. She loved the Lord and enjoyed giving Bibles away along with giving money to churches and other organizations to help spread the message of salvation. She will be missed tremendously, but we grieve with hope knowing she is safe and healed in the arms of Jesus.

She is survived by one son, Donnie Mills, and his wife, Shawn; grandsons, Clint (Larissa) Mills, Jacob (Margaret) Holland, and Jared Holland; granddaughter, Betty Abigail Mills; great-granddaughter, Ava Harper Holland; siblings, Jean Mills, Harold West, and Sandra Nicely; her companion, close friend, and caregiver for the last 4 years, Mr. Jack Allen; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Louise Rouse and George West.

The family would like to say thank you to Betty’s caregivers for the last year: Angela, Tawanda, Shan, and Venessa, along with nurse Wendy from hospice.
