Dawson D. Melton, Sr., 95, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away July 15, 2021. A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, July 19, 2021, at Avondale Baptist Church Cemetery with a visitation following at the Sardis Heard Funerals and Cremation Barn.
Dawson was born in Macon, Georgia. He served as a proud Marine in War World II in the Pacific. He retired from Robins Air Force Base as a Dock Foreman. He was a welder, sheet metal mechanic, electrician, carpenter, and plumber. Dawson was always ready to help family members in any way he could and stayed with several of them in their last days.
After the passing of his wife and all his siblings, he moved to Dahlonega, Georgia, where he enjoyed watching FOX News, Old Westerns, Perry Mason, and Matlock. He loved the mountain air and watching the wildlife in the area.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Sarah-Nell Benton Melton; parents, Gustavus Dandridge and Ruth “Massey” Melton and his son, Dawson D. Melton, Jr.
Dawson is survived by his son, Daniel R. Melton (Linda) of Macon; De Facto Adopted Sons, Charles Wendell Sawyer (Carol), Franklin David Elrod (Joanne); grandchildren, Brandie Smith (Bo Stanley), Jessica Ogden (Michael), Samantha Glavic (Benjamin), Fran Sawyer, Sara Quiram (Paul), Kendra Evans (Joshua), and Deanna McDaniel (Ryan). He loved all his Great and Great-Great Grandchildren. He also loved and cherished all his nieces and nephews.
