James Ronald “Ronnie” Smith, Sr., 63, passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at his residence after battling cancer for two years. Ronnie was born on December 19, 1956 to the late James and Edna Smith. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2020, at 11:00 AM at the Barn, Sardis Heard Funerals and Cremation Center, 6125 Houston Road, Macon, Georgia 31216, with Bob Barthelemy delivering the eulogy. The family will greet family and friends on Friday, November 6, 2020 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, at the Barn. Masks are optional and social distancing guidelines to be followed. Service will be livestreamed on Sardis-Heard Funerals and Cremation Center Facebook.
He graduated from Southwest High School. After graduation he worked at L.H. Thomson Company as a master machinist. Also, he was the owner of Mid-GA Machining Services. Because of his illness, he retired in February 2019. Most of all, Ronnie was happiest spending time at work and with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Brenda Combs Smith; his daughter, Stephanie Lynn Wadsworth (Mike); his sons, James Ronald Smith, Jr. (Suzanne) and Stephen Andrews Sanders; two granddaughters, Ansley Nicole Sanders and Halee Michelle Wadsworth; two great-grandchildren, Jaxon Lane Pike and Josie Rayne Sanders; his sister, Patricia Smith (CJ); his sister-in-law, June Binford (Thad) and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Sheryl Smith Minton and beloved pet, Bowser.
