Janess Harp Harrell

December 3, 1931 — March 20, 2023

Macon, Georgia

Janess Harp Harrell, of Macon, Georgia, passed away Monday, March, 20, 2023, at a local hospice care facility.  She had recently been diagnosed with leukemia.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 3:00 PM at the Harp Family plot at Grace Primitive Baptist Church, 4519 Sardis Church Road.  Pastor Ed Chambliss of Mikado Baptist Church will officiate and Brenda Bush will honor Janess with reverent song.

Janess was born in Seville, Florida, to parents Alice Hudson Harp and William Henry Harp but has lived in Macon for over eight decades.  She is pre-deceased by her parents, husband John Harrell of Tampa, Florida, infant son Homer Eugene Bostick, Jr., twin sister Janet Harp Dunn, brother, Benjamin Grover Harp, husband and father of their four children, Homer Eugene Bostick, Sr., and grandson, USMC Sgt. Kelley Lance Courtney.

She is survived by her three children:  Emily Eugenia Courtney (Bobby), Homer Eugene Bostick, III, and Janice Elizabeth Gerrard (David);  Grandchildren:  Robert Joseph Fernandez, Jr., Donovan Eugene Courtney (Shauna), Becca Marie Gapczynski (Aaron), and Adam Bostick;  Twelve Great-Grandchildren, and one Great-Great Granddaughter.

Janess was a graduate of A. L. Miller High School.  During a combined total of over thirty years, she was the switchboard operator and receptionist for Macon Federal, Liberty Federal, and BB&T.  Her effervescent spirit and outgoing personality was a natural fit as the bank’s designated Party Planner for seasonal festivities.

Janess loved to dance, winning the title of Jitterbug Queen on many occasions.  She and a former San Francisco dance partner were featured in a 1975 Macon Telegraph society page story.  For many years, she sang in the choir of Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church.

Janess spent her retirement years as wife, mother, and grandmother.  She loved being involved in her family’s lives, spending time cooking and baking and being the matriarch of the 1870 Harp Family Estate.  Her beloved dog, Macy, has been a loyal companion for the past fifteen years.

Janess was a member of Mikado Baptist Church.  In lieu of flowers, a contribution in her honor may be made to the Mikado Baptist Church Building Fund.
