Jimmy D. “Papaw” Soles, 69, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on June 4, 2025. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, at 12:00 PM, at Sardis-Heard Funeral Home. The family will greet friends for visitation one hour before the service. The graveside service will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Jimmy was born on March 4, 1956, in Macon, Georgia. He attended Southwest High School and began working hard when he was fourteen years old at the local grocery store. Jimmy also met the love of his life, Susan Bryant, at a young age. They were married when they were both seventeen and were blessed with three children, Jodie, Josh and Jessica.
Jimmy was a simple man with a huge heart. He enjoyed coaching Jessica’s softball teams while she was in school, and he enjoyed doing anything that would include his family and friends. Jimmy could be found piddling in his shop, enjoying building things and working with wood, and he usually was thinking of others while doing it. He built his and Susan’s bed and other furniture pieces for other family members.
Jimmy also loved his friends, with whom he would sometimes spend all day working on a truck or anything that his friends needed help with, while catching up on the latest happenings in their lives. Jimmy also found a lot of fulfillment working at Pop’s Top Shop, where he eventually became a co-owner.
Jimmy loved camping, fishing & skiing when he was younger. He and Susan would go to Lake Sinclair, Lake Oconee, and other places where they could enjoy nature and be together. Out of all the many hats Jimmy wore, the one that brought him the most joy and happiness was being called “Papaw”. He loved his family and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jimmy “Papaw” Soles will be greatly missed.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Susan Soles; his children, Jodie Soles (Amy) of Gray, Georgia, Josh Soles (Candice) of Gulf Breeze, Florida, and Jessica Evans of Macon, Georgia; his grandchildren, Allyson (Kelby), JD, Abbi, Bret, Bryce, Keeley, Kai, Jamison, Sawyer, Chase, Colin, and Caine; his great-grandchildren, Tyrion, Declan, Barrett, Rayleigh, Oakley, and Ryder; and his faithful furbaby, Oreo. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Opal Soles.
