John William Haney, 69, of Ormond Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully at the Advent Health Hospital in Daytona, Florida while in Hospice Care on July 30, 2024. A celebration of life will be held at 12:00 PM, on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Sardis-Heard Funeral Home, with Reverend John Haney officiating. The family will greet friends for a time of visitation during a reception after the service.
John was born in 1955, to the late James and Mary Haney. He was raised in Montgomery County, Maryland, and moved to Macon, Georgia, with his family in 1974. He worked for Geico in D.C. and later, he transitioned to Geico in Macon, until he went to work for Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company in 1977. John worked as a Senior Fabricator Technician, until his retirement in February of 2006.
In February of 2019, he and his wife, Diane, moved to Ormond Beach, Florida. He enjoyed music and playing music with his family as well as with a local band in Macon, Georgia. John sang and played the harmonica. In 1996, he received the invitation of a lifetime when he was invited to attend and play at the Johnny Carter Cash, Jr.’s 21st birthday party.
John is survived by his wife, Diane Haney; his children, David Shannon Haney (Michele) of Aransas Pass, Texas; Jordan Danielle Witkop (Greg) of Spring, Texas; and James Matthew Haney (Anne) of York, South Carolina; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and five brothers. He is preceded in death by his Mother, Father, his sister, and a grandson.
