John Leslie Cocking, 82, passed away on October 9, 2026. A devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he loved his family immensely and leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories.
Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Les earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Georgia State University. He was the retired owner of Spring and Riverside Chevron and Exxon service stations. Throughout his working life, he also worked with numerous companies, including Chevron Oil, Fleet Pride, LJL Truck Center, Marco, MWD Inc., Groome Transportation, and Butler Lexus.
Les found his greatest joy in time spent with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and water skiing, along with many memorable camping trips to Lake Winfield Scott in North Georgia and Black Mountain, North Carolina. Evenings gathered around a glowing campfire were among the special moments he shared with those he loved.
At home, Les enjoyed grilling and gardening, growing beautiful vegetables and bringing family together over good food. He created his own barbecue sauce and made chicken and ribs that his family remembers as the best they ever tasted.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy H. Cocking, and his father, John D. Cocking. He is survived by his sister, Judy C. Barksdale; daughters, Renee C. Coley and Rhonda C. Dawson; sons, John P. Cocking and James L. Cocking; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Les will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His love, the traditions he created, and the memories they shared will be cherished for generations to come.
