Lucy Webb Markwalter

Lucy Webb Markwalter, 89, of Macon, GA passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.

She was born in Dublin, GA on October 20, 1935, to Delmas and Mary (Beckham) Webb. She moved to Macon at a young age and graduated from A. L. Miller High School for Girls.  She was the cherished wife of George Edward Markwalter Jr. for 67 years.

She served as a teacher’s aide at Saint Joseph Elementary School before going on to a career in banking where she retired as an IRA specialist at Liberty Federal Savings Bank. During the years raising her children, she generously gave her time volunteering as a Girl Scout leader and supporting many school and sports activities.

Lucy was blessed with a kind and generous spirit and made everyone who entered her home feel welcome and cared for. Her creativity was evident in her garden where she enjoyed composing planters and borders for all to enjoy.  She was a true southern cook who created wonderful meals for family and friends. She was an avid reader which contributed to her superb ability to solve crossword puzzles. She treasured her Miller classmates and former co-workers and maintained those friendships throughout her life.

She is survived by her loving husband, Ed, and children Kathryn Carpenter (Walter), Lynn Rostvold (Mark), Andrea Lavoie (Anthony), and Brian Markwalter (Holland); grandchildren Carson (Sarah), Peirce (Rebekah), Kathryn, Ellen (Coy), Corwin, Chester (Kelly), Daniel (Christine), Kyle (Gabriela), Theresa, and eight great-grandchildren. Lucy dearly loved her brothers, Del Webb Jr., Fred Webb, and Charles Webb, who preceded her in death, and her sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank her caregivers, Cherry Causey and Jackie Emory Jones, for their kind and compassionate care.  Their support was invaluable and greatly appreciated.

A service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Macon, GA or a charity of your choice.
