Michael Lamar Mason

Michael Lamar Mason, 70, of Macon, GA, passed away Monday, August 22, 2022.  A funeral service will be held Friday, August 26, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. at Liberty Church Macon, with the Reverend Wayne Anthony officiating. The family will greet friends 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Liberty Church Macon Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Church Macon, 6511 Houston Rd, Macon, GA 31216.

Son of the late Thomas Lamar and Anna Mae Sheppard Mason, Mr. Mason was born in Macon and lived in Dudley, Georgia until he was 9 years old.  He was a 1970 graduate of Willingham High School and went on to graduate from Macon Junior College in 1972.  Mr. Mason was a cabinetmaker for the Bibb County Board of Education from 1980 to 2013.  A self-taught musician, he played in bands since he was 16 years old.  Mr. Mason was a member of Liberty Church Macon for 60 years, where he played and sang in the praise band.

Mr. Mason loved fishing from the pier at St. Simons Island, Chick-fil-A, cutting grass on his riding lawn mower, and above all, he loved his grandchildren.

Mr. Mason is survived by his wife of 48 years, Laura Matthews Mason of Macon; daughter, Elizabeth Kovel (Steve) of Germany; grandchildren, Caleb, Sarah Beth, Rachel Anna, and Delaney Ruth; brother, Thomas “Tommy” Mason (Theresa “Pete” Aultman) of Macon; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
