Michael Joseph Schwerin

Michael (Mike) Schwerin, 71, of Kathleen, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his adoring family on Monday, December 12, 2022.

Mike served his country and was a United States Army Veteran.  He received his master’s degree in Divinity and served as pastor of Irishtown Baptist Mission in inner-city Lexington for many years. He also received a second master’s degree in Social Work and worked at the University of Kentucky-Markey Cancer Center as Director of Psychosocial Support. Mike loved helping others and was involved with various organizations and ministries throughout his life.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Margaret Schwerin; daughter, Melissa Taylor (Shawn) of Kathleen, Georgia; his sons, Matthew Schwerin (Sarah) of Sorrento, Florida; and Marc Schwerin (Melissa) of Milan, Michigan; grandchildren, Avery Taylor, Andrew Schwerin, Benjamin Schwerin, Athen Taylor, Katelyn Schwerin, Addelyn Schwerin, Ace Taylor, Kimberly Schwerin, and Jonathan Schwerin; sister, Patricia Schwerin Flinn (James) of Richmond, Kentucky; and brother, Alfred Schwerin (Annette) of Fountain Valley, California. He is predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Olive Schwerin.

Mike will be laid to rest at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, Kentucky on Monday, March 13, 2023, at 1:30pm with Military Honors.
