Raymond Paul McCord was born in Rector, Arkansas, to the late Wayne and Deleithia McCord on May 6, 1952. From his youth until earning his wings on the 19th of April 2026, Ray was full of life and a kind, caring man. Ray met his wife of 56 years, Marline, in the most unlikely of places in 1970’s America, the Army. They met and married at Ft Huachuca, Arizona, and went on to raise 2 daughters, Christina and Jennifer, while traveling the world as a military family.
After his retirement they settled in Central Florida to be closer to family and later moved to Middle Georgia for the same reason. During this journey, they welcomed William Slaton and Candace Little to the family as the spouses of Christina and Jennifer along with 5 grandchildren, Summer, Autum, Skyy, William JR and Angel. In addition to his children and grandchildren, Ray was a father figure to many more along the way and has earned the title of “Grandpa” time and again. His caring, strong, and silly soul is a part of so many people and will live on for generations through their children. Ray was a friend to all that he met. His days would start with a hot cup of coffee for him and hot tea for Marline at the local Huddle House where they are blessed to be counted and loved as two of the “regulars”. He went on to spend his days outside whenever possible with a variety of hobbies that included growing orchids, building model trains, and above all other things taking care of his yard. He was always pruning, planting and watering something outside.
Ray also made sure that he always paid it forward, sharing his time and good fortune with local veterans’ organizations, food banks and family focused charities. He was always ready to “stuff the truck”. Ray leaves behind a legacy of love without judgement and a heart so big there was always room for one more and he will be missed.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at 11:00am, at Sardis-Heard Funeral Home.
