Richard Oliver “Buddy” Mines, Sr.

Richard Oliver “Buddy” Mines, Sr., 86, of Macon, Georgia, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2021. Funeral services will be announced later.

Buddy was the longtime manager in charge of operations of the Greenbrier Hotel in WV and the Homestead in Hot Springs, VA. He had the opportunity to host many dignitaries including both Presidents Bush Sr. and Jr., Ford, and Johnson, and Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. His warmth, humor, and kindness extended into every aspect of his personal and professional life.

Buddy played semi-professional baseball for the Hot Springs Indians. He was inducted into the Bath County, Virginia Sports Hall of Fame. His greatest passion was running, having run 60 marathons, and recording more than 81,000 miles. He was a former deacon of Healing Springs Baptist Church in Virginia. In Macon, Mr. Mines was a member of Martha Bowman United Methodist Church, the Nan Freeman Sunday School Class, and the ROMEOs.

Buddy is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dreama Blankenship Mines of Macon; three children, Dr. Richard O. Mines, Jr. (Beth) of Macon; Angela M. Plunkett of Laguna Hills, CA, and Dr. Barry Mines (Wendy) of Panama City, Fla; seven grandsons, John Plunkett (Bonnie), James Plunkett, Matthew Plunkett (Gaby), Evan Mines (Katie), Ethan Mines, Andrew Mines, and Daniel Mines; four great grandchildren, Audrey, Adam, and Alan Plunkett, and Aubrey Mines; brother-in-law, Thomas Boutlier (Denise) of Goffstown, NH; and sister-in-law, Mary P. Blankenship of Warm Springs, VA.

Buddy will be sorely missed by his friends and family, in whom his spirit lives on.
