Walter Lamar Huff, Sr.

July 5, 1929 — November 19, 2025

Walter Lamar Huff, Sr., of Macon, Georgia, passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, after a long and full life, surrounded by the love of his family. A graveside service will be held at High Noon, on Monday, November 24, 2025, at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, 7070 Houston Road, Macon, Georgia, with Reverend Will Farrington officiating.

Born in Columbus, Georgia, on July 5, 1929, he was the son of William Lamar Huff and Eva Mae Huff (née Strickland).

Lamar grew up with the values of hard work, loyalty, and quiet strength—traits he carried throughout his ninety-plus years. He graduated from Lanier High School for Boys in 1948, but his work ethic had taken root long before then. At just eleven years old, Lamar held his first job at Chichester’s Pharmacy on Tattnall Square, where he swept floors, ran errands, and learned the satisfaction of an honest day’s work. Those early lessons stayed with him for a lifetime.

Soon after high school, he answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer before receiving an honorable discharge in 1952.

In 1953, Lamar married the love of his life, Jacqueline Huff (née Horne), his devoted wife and steadfast companion for more than seventy years. Together they built a home filled with affection, laughter, and the kind of gentle humor that became Lamar’s signature.

He spent his working years as a skilled machinist with Georgia Kraft Company, retiring in 1991. Lamar was a proud and active member of the International Association of Machinists, standing shoulder to shoulder with the working men he so respected.

A long-time member of Liberty Church Macon (formerly Liberty United Methodist Church), Lamar lived his faith in quiet but unwavering ways.

Outside of work and family, Lamar found joy in the simple pleasures. He was an avid fisherman, happiest by the water with a rod in his hand and the sun on his shoulders. A lifelong football fan, especially of college football, he had a tradition all his own: on autumn Saturdays, he often watched one game on television while listening to another on the radio. He was a connoisseur of fish fries, boiled peanuts, and cold beer, and he cherished the fellowship that came with each.

Lamar was known for his dry sense of humor, the kind that arrived quietly but landed with perfect timing. He had a nickname for everyone he liked—and a few for those he didn’t—offered always with a twinkle in his eye.

Lamar is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; his three children, Walter L. Huff, Jr. of Tucker; Steven E. Huff (Tawn) of Macon; and Holly P. Gore (Phillip) of Juliette; five grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, J. William Huff and Ronald S. Huff.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Liberty Church Macon, Heartland Hospice, or Brightmoor Hospice.

As we commend him to God's keeping, we remember the words of 1 Thessalonians 4:11–12: “…to work with your own hands… that ye may walk honestly…”

A fitting tribute to a man who lived his life with quiet dignity, steady labor, and an honest heart.
