Winifred Syvilla Green

Milledgeville

Winifred Syvilla Green, 92, of Milledgeville, Georgia passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Plentitude Baptist Church in Gray, Georgia, with Reverend Tommy Freeman officiating. The family will greet friends for a time of visitation one hour prior to service. She will be laid to rest at the Byron City Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, please donate to Cancer for Life in honor of Ms. Winifred Green.

Winifred was born in 1931, to the Late Loy Skelton and Dessia Dorsey Skelton in Newton County, Georgia.  She was a longtime member of Evergreen Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Warner Robins Garden Club and was “Mrs. Santa Claus” in the Warner Robins Christmas Parade. She was a Pink Lady at the Houston County Hospital, and she loved working with the Adams Nursery Childcare in Warner Robins. She was proud to have worked many years at several nursing homes as the Social Director and Director in Warner Robins, Macon, and Atlanta.  Ms. Winifred loved spending winters in St. Petersburg, Florida and the summer months at Lake Sinclair.  She cherished her cocker-mix dog, “Lady” and she enjoyed her 5:00 PM toddy which was her mixture of Kentucky Burbon and Diet Caffeine-Free Pepsi. She was a wonderful and care-giving person who loved to be surrounded by her family and friends.  She will be missed dearly.

She is survived by her children, Jennie Patrick-Sawyer of Conyers, Georgia; and Luther Gene Duke Jr. (Alice) of Macon, Georgia; her grandchildren, David Patrick (Iris) of Springfield, Virginia; Floyd Duke of Forsyth, Georgia; Curtis Duke (Sierra) of Jones County, and Gerri Duke of Jones County; her great-grandchildren, Floyd A. Duke Jr., Liam Jesse Duke, Chloe Walden, and Charlee Duke; her sister, Hazel Payne of Covington, Georgia, and numerous nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her first husband, Luther Eugene Duke Sr.; her second husband, Donald K. Green; her parents, Loy Skelton and Ella Dessa Evans; her daughter, Martha Alice Duke; her grandson, Jesse Duke; and her siblings, Mildred McPherson, Shirley Rhondus, and Douglas Skelton.
