Barbara Ann Schmidt Keene

It saddens us to share the news of the passing of our mother, Barbara Ann (Schmidt) Keene. She loved reading and learning, and thus had a wide range of knowledge. Barbara was excellent in the kitchen and loved exploring new recipes and techniques. While quiet, she was incredibly witty and quick-minded. Her greatest joy was having her family close and sharing time together. Barbara was born in Waco, Texas, but spent her childhood moving with her family for the United States Air Force. She was a graduate from the University of Georgia for Business. After graduating, she began a career in insurance, followed by many years as a marketing representative for both Barnes and Nobles and Mercer University Press. She later returned to the insurance industry as a data analyst with GEICO. She was married to her husband, Wyatt Lamar Keene, for 39 years, before his recent death. She is preceded in death by her father, Lt. Thomas Andrew Schmidt, and mother, Joan Carol Schmidt. She leaves behind her two children, Kerry Keene and Tommy Keene. 

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 5:00PM on Sunday, September 19, 2021, at Sardis Heard Funeral Home, for both Barbara and Wyatt Keene.  The family will greet friends immediately following the service.
