Dwight Howell, 78, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022. A viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 28, 2022, at Sardis-Heard Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Masks are optional.
Dwight was born on August 21, 1943, in Jacksonville, Florida. He graduated from Dudley Hughes High School in 1961. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from July 1961 to July 1964 as a vehicle mechanic, and he spent nine months serving in Europe. Dwight worked as a welder and was a member of Boilermakers Union. He helped build Plant Scherer and several other power plants. He worked at Brown & Williamson Tobacco company for 20 years as a fabricator. Later he helped start a successful business, Shred Monster, with his sons, Stephen and Mark Howell.
Dwight was a devout Christian and served as an Elder at Harvest Cathedral for many years. He helped build Lamb’s Chapel Church, was involved with prison ministry, and he would sing in retirement homes, along with his sister, Faye, and mother, Mabel. He loved to study the bible and was a strong spiritual leader for his family. He was a selfless man and always helped people in need. He would repair vehicles for family and friends, and would buy and give away used vehicles for those in need.
Dwight loved cars, trucks, and motorcycles. He was a big Ford fan and Nascar racing fan. He was musically inclined and often carried a harmonica in his pocket for spontaneous jam sessions. He was a singer/song writer and wrote many songs including patriotic songs about all branches of the service. He loved classic country music, playing guitar, and enjoyed singing at karaoke bars. More than anything, he loved his family ;his sons and grandchildren were very special to him.
Dwight will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 40 years, Mary Frances Howell; son: Stephen Howell (Jenny), of Macon, Georgia; stepson’s, David Howell (Lianne), of Fort Mill, South Carolina, Mark Howell (Margie), of Macon, Georgia, and Tim Self (Marquita), of Macon, Georgia; brother, Donnie Howell, of Macon, Georgia; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman C. and Mabel P. Howell; brother, Hugh Howell, and sister, Faye Mullis. Please register at www.sardisheardfunerals.com to express your condolences.
