James William Haney, 98, of Macon, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, April 1, 2023. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Sardis-Heard Funeral Home, with the Reverend Tina Crowell officiating. The family will greet friends for a time of visitation on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM At Sardis-Heard Funeral Home. Burial will be immediately after the service on Thursday, at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, 7070 Houston Road, Macon, Georgia.
James was born in 1924 to the Late Charles Raymond and Bessie Haney. He was raised in Virginia and moved to Macon, Georgia in 1974. He proudly served in the United States Navy during War World II. He did various chauffer jobs working as a taxi driver. He also worked at Geico as the Sergeant of Security, where he later retired. He had a love for music and began touring with Patsy Cline early in her career. He was a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
James is survived by his children, Ronald Edward Haney (Renate) of Macon, Georgia; Dennis Leon Haney (Catherine) of Montgomery Village, Maryland; Donald Lee Haney of Macon, Georgia; John Haney (Diane) of Ormond Beach, Florida; Robert James Haney (Delaine) of King, North Carolina; and Raymond Vernon Haney (Sherry) of Macon, Georgia; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; and sister, Samantha Haney Spence (Dr. Jordan) of Forest, Virginia. He is predeceased by his parents; wife, Mary Elizabeth Haney; daughter, Mary Kathleen Spearman; sister, Thelma Dickerson; and brother, Thomas Haney.
