Lanell Belote Tyre, 96, of Macon, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 12, 2021 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, with reverend Jon Beck officiating. The family will greet friends at the Church, one hour before the service. Interment will be private.
Nell married at seventeen years old and moved to Macon, Georgia. For seven years, she worked as the care taker of Sue Ellen, also known as #1. She then went to work at the Naval Ordinance Plant, and from there to Robins Air Force Base. After marrying JP, they became avid campers with a group from Tabernacle. When not camping, they were “yard selling” at the Farmers market or playing cards with friends.
Nell was a social butterfly and every butterfly needs a buddy. To every Lucy there is an Ethel, and Margaret Boney was definitely Nell’s Ethel. Their friendship was so close and so special. You never saw one without the other. She also had another very special friendship with Carolyn Maloy. Nell and Carolyn carpooled to and from the Base for over 25 years.
She was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for over 70 years. She was a fixture, and the belle of the ball at all the carnivals and social gatherings. She always volunteered to be in the church skits.
Nell will be lovingly remembered by her niece, Sue Ellen Collins (Otha); nephew, Harold Belote (Julie); great-nephew, Darrell Collins (Jennifer); great-niece, Kathy Delk (Chris); and dear friends, Margaret Boney and Carolyn Maloy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.P. Tyre; daughter, Wanda Lane Sandifer; niece, Kelly Collins Haymans; parents, Tommie Belote and Ellen Smith Belote; five sisters; and four brothers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Nell’s honor to Tabernacle Baptist Church at 6611 Zebulon Road, Macon, Georgia 31220.
