Lisa Gale Land Davis, 64, died May 5 at Pine Pointe Hospice in Macon with family by her side.
She is preceded in death by parents, Mary Jo and Hudson Land; her brother, William “Billy” Land; and her spouse, John Stephen Davis.
She is survived by her sisters, Carol Land and Heather Land Harris; her daughter, Brittany Davis Yarger (Chris); her grandsons, Caleb Yarger, Jacob Yarger, and Zachary Yarger; her niece, Ava Elizabeth Harris; and her nephew, Max Harris.
Lisa always greeted family and friends with warm hugs and parted their company with well wishes and more hugs.
A straight “A” student, Lisa graduated from Northeast High School in 1977. In her junior and senior years, she participated in a work-study program that allowed her to work part time while earning course credit. She did so well that her employer, the renowned Macon attorney S. Gus Jones, asked her to continue working for him after she graduated.
Several years later, she moved to an administrative assistant position at Mercer University School of Law. During her career, Lisa worked with several law firms, including Edea Caldwell’s firm in Stockbridge and later with David Waldrop at Smith, Welch, Webb & White in McDonough.
Lisa and her family lived in McDonough and joined the Catholic Church there. When her husband passed away, she returned to Macon to live with her sisters 11 years ago.
She loved being a grandmother, and she loved (and missed) working with Mr. Waldrop and the Smith, Welch, Webb & White family. She appreciated the support she received from her co-workers during her 25 years there and after she retired due to her health.
In a Facebook post on Lisa’s 60th birthday, her sister Heather wrote, “Today marks 60 years of Lisa not uttering a single curse word … I have never heard her say one unkind word about anyone or anything.” Heather wrote about Lisa’s ‘goodness and kind heart” and how she handled her declining health with “grace and dignity.”
The family is planning a private service at a later date.
