Thomas Gregory Groves

On the evening of Sunday, January 23, 2022, our family lost our youngest
member. Thomas Gregory Groves, age 30 of Macon, left us suddenly for the big
poker game in the sky with his late grandfathers.
Thomas was a phenomenal and professional dog trainer, a fantastic gamer, a
loyal and generous friend, a protective brother, a devoted son, a hilarious uncle,
an innovative and creative leader, an absolute gem of a human being.
Thomas knew how to bring a smile out of anyone. Not the one that rests on your
face; he sought the smile of your soul with words and actions that showed his
kind heart and deep love for others. In his presence, you knew you were safe,
and that somehow everything would be okay.
Thomas loved animals, especially dogs. The truth was that dogs were often
better students, and more easily accepted his limitless compassion. Thomas held
to the truth that all humans deserve love and respect. He was both anti-racist and
quick to stand up for anyone in need. He empathized deeply with avenues of
justice for all.
He will forever be loved and missed.
Thomas is survived by his parents Gregory and Patricia Groves; his sisters,
Jessica Groves-Chapman (m. Marvin Chapman III) and Cara Youmans; and his
nieces and nephews: Asher, Evie, Stella, Marvin, and Emma. He leaves behind
his best friend, Josh Crummie, son of Thomas’s second “Mumma” Karen
Thompson, and his four-legged sidekick, Woody.
A memorial celebration will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022. Visitation will be
at 1 PM, with a sharing service at 2 PM. Those who knew and loved Thomas are
welcome to join us as we share food, music, and love. This is a casual event and
hats are encouraged in his memory. We ask that all who attend please take
precautions against the spread of Covid-19 by being vaccinated and/or wearing a
mask. Thomas would insist we keep everyone safe and healthy.

Donations in his name to your local animal rescue are encouraged in lieu of flowers.
