William David Price

David Price, 71, of Lizella passed away Thursday, October 15, 2020. A private Celebration of Life will be Sunday, October 18, 2020 the chapel at Sardis Heard Funerals and Cremation Center with Johnnie Yates officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Pine Pointe Hospice, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, GA 31210 or Unity of Central Georgia, PO Box 2037, Byron, GA 31008.

David was born in Macon, Georgia, June 23, 1949 to James Edward and Pauline Martin Price. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Duane Price; son, Cayce Price (Emily) of Blairsville, Georgia; daughter, Heather P. Bailey (Bryan) of Stockbridge, Georgia; grandchildren, MacKenzie Middleton of Stockbridge, Georgia, Hayden Price of Blairsville, Georgia, Lyla Price of Blairsville, Georgia, Ava Bailey of Stockbridge, Georgia, Brooklyn Bailey of Stockbridge, Georgia; four nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law, Jim McCallum. In addition to his parents, David was also preceded in death by his brother, Michael “Mike” Price.

David graduated from A.R. Willingham High School in 1967 and the University of Georgia, Henry W. Grady School of Journalism with an ABJ in broadcast news in 1972. He worked for WBML Radio from July 1972 – March 1976; he then went to WMAZ Radio, where he was the first co-anchor and co-producer of the Morning Show. David then moved on to become the News Anchor for WMAZ TV.  During this time, he also worked as a professional photographer, videographer and video editor. David retired from Bibb County as Public Relations Director in 2000.

David received numerous awards for investigative and public affairs radio reporting while working as a reporter for WBML, WMAZ and FM99 Radio stations, including the “Silver Gavel Award” from the Georgia Bar Association for radio reporting on the legal system in Georgia. He served on numerous boards of directors in Macon and Bibb County, including the Middle Georgia Library system Board of Trustees, Volunteer Macon, the Macon-Bibb County Domestic Violence Task Force, the Heart of Georgia Child Abuse Council, the Bibb County Elementary School Sex Education Task Force and the Citizens Advisory Committee for the Bibb County Road Improvement Program, and many others.

David’s greatest desire was to be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. To him, nothing else mattered.
